Meeting of the Coordinators of Refugee Education with the Working Group for the Management, Coordination and Monitoring of Refugee Education with keynote speaker the Regional Coordinator of Northern Greece of the Ministry of Migration Policy Μ. Nikolaos Ragkos. There has been a presentation of the produced educational support material of the European Programme Xenios Zeus, Erasmus+, KA2, by the partners of the programme, Ms Xefteri and Ms Michaloglou from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/ Department of Pedagogy in Primary Education, Ms Takouda from the School of Modern Greek Language/ Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, M. Dinas from the University of Western Macedonia, Mrs Spyropoulou from Diktio Alfa and Mrs Ploutoglou and Ms Pazarli from the Cartographic Archives.

On Tuesday 8-5-2018 and Wednesday 9-5-2018 the Erasmus+ «AVIOR» delegation visited the premises of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia.

This project seeks to reduce disparities in learning outcomes in basic literacy and numeracy skills between native and non-native primary school children in Europe by:

  • developing cost-effective approaches to produce multilingual literacy and numeracy learning resources for migrant children;
  • building teacher professional competence to create inclusive multilingual classrooms;
  • creating informal local teacher/parent collaborative networks to enhance the participation of migrant parents in strengthening their children’s basic numeracy and literacy skills and
  • broadening the awareness of teacher trainers, school leaders and policy makers about the benefits of mother tongue and multilingual education for migrant children.

First, the Regional Director of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia, M. Ananiadis Panagiotis welcomed the members of ΑVIOR.  

Afterwards, the Head of Primary Education in the Regional Directorate of Central Macedonia M. Akritidis Nikolaos described thoroughly the humanitarian crisis since 2015 with migrant and refugee flows, which fled to the E.U. by crossing the Mediterranean. He, also, mentioned the procedure followed, in order for refugees to be integrated to the Greek society and education.

Moreover, Ms Staikou Krystallia, Contact Person of Xenios Zeus presented the whole team, the Welcome Guide, the Educational Support Material produced by its partners and used in the camps for the past two years and the so far work progress of the programme.

Finally, Mrs Spyropoulou Eleftheria from Diktio Alpha, partner of XENIOS ZEUS, presented the educational support material “Bridges”.
